Responsibilities
The Gardner Historical Commission was established in 1973 for the preservation, protection and development of the historical and archaeological assets of the City of Gardner.
The Historical Commission conducts research for places of historic or archaeological value, cooperates with the state archaeologist in conducting such research or other surveys, and seeks to coordinate the activities of other entities organized for similar purposes.
For the purpose of protecting and preserving such places, the Commission may take such recommendations as it deems necessary to the city council and, subject to the approval of the city council, to the Massachusetts historical commission, that any such place be certified as a historical or archaeological landmark.
