Mayor Mark Hawke
Gardner is a City on the move!
Welcome to the Chair City, where so many exciting changes are taking place! While Gardner is still referred to as, the Chair City, and we will always cherish our rich history and past, Gardner is becoming so much more than a good place to purchase furniture. Private businesses are growing, while manufacturing and technology companies are expanding.
There's a lot happening in Downtown Gardner
Downtown Gardner has been undergoing many positive, recent changes and there are even more to come. Several buildings have been demolished making way for future green spaces and parking areas. Through a MassWorks Infrastructure Program Grant, Derby Drive construction was completed providing a multi-purpose roadway just off of downtown. The next phase of the project involves adding parking spaces, green space and concrete plaza areas.
Recently Gardner announced its participation in a new state program, "Liabilities to Assets", targeting blighted single and two family homes to be renovated and sold to qualified first time homebuyers.
Schools
Mayor Hawke continues to make our schools a priority. Watkin's Field at Gardner High School is undergoing a major renovation including the installation of a turf field and progress is being made on plans for the construction of a new elementary school.
Economic Development
- Our new medical marijuana business is ready to open it's doors on Pearson Blvd.
- GFA Credit Union is adding 20,000+ sq. ft., Fidelity Bank has merged with Colonial Co-operative and is undergoing a major renovation.
- The old Family Vision Care Building was recently purchased and is being rehabilitated into a local pharmacy. (Not a CVS or Walgreens type),
- Concord Electrical Supply (467 branches in 29 states) bought and is rehabilitating the former Heritage Truck and Transit (next to Fitness Concepts), and
- Site work has begun on the 99's Restaurant with Powell Construction hard at work.
Community Events
- The Second Food Truck Festival over the summer was visited by thousands of people. Plans are already underway for next year's event.
- The Annual Chair Luge at the Fabulous Fall Festival entertained its largest crowd to date.
- The Gardner Museum is about to begin the very popular Festival of Trees. Plan on joining your neighbor this holiday season attending our popular tree lighting event and caroling!
The next time you need something, please consider shopping in your downtown to support these local businesses. There is something for everyone.
Stay tuned for more great things happening in our welcoming community!
