[ARCHIVED] GMS Parent Newsletter - September 29, 2021

September 29, 2021

GMS Parents, Guardians, & Students:

Due to the COVID restrictions in place to help keep everyone healthy and safe, students do not have access to the traditional water fountains at school. We do have bottle fill stations which students are allowed to use as needed. It would be greatly appreciated if you could send your student to school with a refillable water bottle they can use throughout the day.

GMS Unified Arts classes

The GMS Unified Arts classes include Gym, Fitness, Art, Music, STEM, Robotics and Health. Each student has participated in 2 of these classes for the last few weeks. As we move into the second half of Quarter 1, students will be switching up these classes. In addition, we are excited to once again offer Band and Chorus during the UA blocks. In order to allow for Band and Chorus to take place, some of the student groupings for UAs will be changing. While the majority of students will be with the same peers in the UA blocks as they are in their academic classes, those in Band and Chorus will be in a mixed cohort for these classes, as will a few other students in the other Unified Arts blocks.

New classes will begin on Tuesday, October 12th. Our staff will spend some time next week ensuring that students know which UA classes they will be starting on this date.

Looking to get involved in our school? Consider joining the GMS Equity Committee

GMS is forming an Equity Committee and is looking for a few parents to become involved in advising our school on how to best move this work forward. This committee will look at curriculum and materials to ensure that all groups are equally represented. If you are interested in being a part of this new initiative, please contact Matt Lehtonen at lehtonenm@gardnerk12.org
