[ARCHIVED] GMS Parent Newsletter - June 16, 2021

June 16, 2021

GMS Parents, Guardians, & Students:

Congratulations to all on surviving a year like no other! Our students, staff and community were faced with many COVID related challenges over the last year and were able to overcome these challenges through patience and perseverance. We at GMS are ready to put this year behind us and are already looking ahead to the next school year. We hope you take some time this summer to relax and recharge so you can be prepared to help make the 2021-2022 school year the best one yet.

One School, One Book 2021

Gardner Middle School has chosen our book for this year’s Summer reading. A Fish in a Tree  by Lynda Mullaly Hunt has been selected and purchased for all incoming 5th, 6th and 7th grade students. Books and additional information are being shared with students this week. If your student is remote, you should make arrangements to come in and pick up a copy of the book.

Ally has been smart enough to fool a lot of smart people. Every time she lands in a new school, she is able to hide her inability to read by creating clever yet disruptive distractions.  She is afraid to ask for help; after all, how can you cure dumb? However, her newest teacher Mr. Daniels sees the bright, creative kid underneath the trouble maker. With his help, Ally learns not to be so hard on herself and that dyslexia is nothing to be ashamed of. As her confidence grows, Ally feels free to be herself and the world starts opening up with possibilities. She discovers that there’s a lot more to her—and to everyone—than a label, and that great minds don’t always think alike.
