Community Police Academies

Junior Police Academy is and educational week long program open to students 13 to 17 years old, that have an interest in learning about law enforcement. The academy will teach cadets about the methods and techniques used in the profession through a para-military setting that will include, classroom training, hands on instruction, practical application and physical fitness training. Cadet's will gain an understanding of community responsibility and problem solving. At the completion of the academy cadets will be able to demonstrate leadership qualities, developed communications skills and basic understand of police practices.  

The Citizens' Police Academy is an educational program designed to offer residents and business owners an opportunity to learn about the Gardner Police Department's practices and services.  The program is not intended to train participants to perform law enforcement duties, but to create a nucleus of citizens who are well informed about the department's operations.  The training is structured to provide classroom instruction, tours and demonstrations of the various units of the Gardner Police Department.

The Academy will consist of a variety of topics, to include: 

  • Criminal/motor vehicle laws
  • Criminal Investigations
  • Demonstrations of a drunk driving arrest and booking
  • Drug Investigations 
  • Domestic violence
  • 911 Center
  • Officer safety/survival
  • New Station Tour
