Planning Board
The Planning Board studies the resources and needs of the City, particularly conditions affecting public welfare and safety related to land use and development. It uses relevant plans and related processes to plan and make recommendations for the development of the City, with special attention to the proper housing of its inhabitants. It has total responsibility for regulating all subdivisions through the administration of the Rules And Regulations Governing The Subdivision Of Land. The Board has the primary responsibility for the writing of zoning ordinances, which must be approved by the Mayor and City Council. The Board is assisted in its day-to-day work by Robert Hubbard, Director of Community Development and Planning.
The Board has 5 members appointed by the Mayor for terms of 5 years, subject to confirmation by the City Council. The members elect a chairperson and vice-chairperson. One member is elected to represent the Board on the Montachusett Regional Planning Commission.
