Monday evening, May 3, 2010.  Regular Meeting of the City Council held in the Council Chambers, City Hall.~ Meeting called to order by Council President Neil Janssens at 7:30 o’clock p.m.

Roll call taken – Eight (8) members present, Councillors Alice Anderson, Henry Ares, David Boudreau, Ronald Cormier, Patrick Gerry, Edward Gravel, James Minns, and President Neil Janssens; two (2) absent, Councillors Joshua Cormier and Scott Graves ; and, one (1) unsworn, Councillor-Elect James Robinson, Jr.

The Opening Prayer was recited in unison.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited in unison.

ACCEPTANCE OF MINUTES

On a motion by Councillor Ronald Cormier, seconded by Councillor Alice Anderson, it was voted on voice vote, eight (8) yeas; two (2) absent, Councillors Joshua Cormier and Scott Graves; and, one (1) unsworn, Councillor-Elect James Robinson, Jr., to accept the Minutes of the Regular Meeting of April 20, 2010, as written.

Goldstein to the License Commission and Kenneth Wilson to City Assessor.

PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE

Due to the absence of Committee members, the Public Safety Committee was granted more time to report on the Application of Philip Kinzer for a Junk Collector License.

PUBLIC WELFARE COMMITTEE MEETING
Councillor Patrick Gerry announced the Public Welfare Committee will meet with the School Superintendent on Friday, May 7 at 1:00 P.M. to discuss the FY2011 School Department Budget.

Medication Drop-Off Program
Councillor Edward Gravel announced the Board of Health is sponsoring a Medication Drop-Off Program on Saturday, May 8, 2010 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Waterford Street School.  Residents are encouraged to bring their expired, unwanted and/or unused medications for proper disposal. ~

WATER/SEWER DELINQUENCY NOTICES
Councillor David Boudreau announced water and sewer delinquency notices are being sent out this week.  He encouraged delinquent property owners to contact officials to work out a payment plan.

NIKI PLOURDE/44th PILLSBURY BAKE-OFF FINALIST
Councillor Henry Ares recognized Ms. Niki Plourde’s achievements as a contestant in the Annual Pillsbury Bake-Off.

On a motion by Councillor Henry Ares, seconded by Councillor James Minns, it was on voice vote, eight (8) yeas; two (2) absent, Councillors Joshua Cormier and Scott Graves; and, one (1) unsworn, Councillor-Elect James Robinson, Jr., to send a letter of congratulations to Ms. Plourde on her notable achievement.
GREATER GARDNER NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER
Councillor Henry Areas reminded those in attendance that the Greater Gardner National Day of Prayer to be held on Thursday, May 6, 2010 from Noon to 1:00 P.M. at Monument Park.

“EAT PIZZA AND SUPPORT GARDNER”/225th Anniversary Celebration Benefit
Councillor Alice Anderson expressed thanks to everyone who participated in the “Eat Pizza and Support Gardner” fundraiser held at Papa Gino’s Restaurant on April 29th.  The proceeds benefitted the City’s 225th Anniversary Celebration.

CANCER SOCIETY RELAY FOR LIFE “PURPLE LIGHT” CAMPAIGN
Councillor Alice Anderson urged the Councillors to stay after the May 17th meeting for the Breast Cancer Awareness “purple lighting” ceremony in front of at City Hall.
