City Council Minutes 08/31/2009-Special Meeting

Monday evening, August 31, 2009. Special Meeting of the City Council held in the Council Chambers, City Hall.~ Meeting called to order by President Janssens at 6:30 o’clock p.m.

Roll call taken – Ten members present (Councillors Anderson, Ares, Boudreau, J. Cormier, R. Cormier, Dembrosky, Graves, Jaillet, Minns, President Janssens) one absent (Councillor Robinson).

At 6:31 P.M., President Janssens recessed the Special meeting in order to re-convene the Informal Meeting.

At 7:55P.M., President Janssens reconvened the Special Meeting.

It was moved by Councillor R. Cormier, seconded by Councillor Dembrosky, to override the Mayor’s veto of Item, #8208, notwithstanding the objections of the Mayor [On August 4, 2009, the Ordinance was laid before the Mayor for his approval. On August 10, 2009 at 11:37 A.M., the Ordinance was returned by the Mayor with his objections].

On roll call, a two-thirds vote of the Council necessary to override the Mayor’s veto, seven (7) yeas (Councillors Boudreau, R. Cormier, Dembrosky, Graves, Jaillet, Minns, and President Janssens), three (3) nays (Councillors Anderson, Ares, and J. Cormier), one (1) absent (Councillor Robinson) the motion was not adopted.

On a motion by Councillor R. Cormier, seconded by Councillor J. Cormier, it was voted eight (8) yeas (Councillors Ares, Boudreau, J. Cormier, R. Cormier, Dembrosky, Jaillet, Minns, and President Janssens), two (2) nays (Councillors Anderson and Graves), and one (1) absent (Councillor Robinson) to adopt the following Resolution:

RESOLUTION

Resolved, it is the opinion of the City Council of the City of Gardner that a reorganization of the Offices of the City Clerk/Collector of Taxes, City Treasurer, and Information Technology (“IT”) is in the best interest of the City, and requests that the Mayor present a plan to the Council on September 8, 2009.

Councillor Dembrosky moved, seconded by Councillor Jaillet, to grant the Council more time.

On roll call, seven (7) yeas (Councillors Anderson, Ares, R. Cormier, Dembrosky, Graves, Jaillet, and Minns), three (3) nays (Councillors Boudreau, J. Cormier, and President Janssens), one (1) absent (Councillor Robinson), the motion was adopted.
