Community Development and Planning
The Department of Community Development and Planning (DCDP) administers the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program and other State and Federal grant programs that fund a wide variety of activities designed to make the City of Gardner a better place to live and work.
During the past few years, grant funded projects have revitalized Pulaski Playground and Lafayette Square, built the roads and installed sewer and water lines to support a new industrial park, rehabilitated over 30 units of housing, built the first mile of the North Central Pathway, and supported a number of social and human services agencies including GAAMHA, GVNA and MVOC.
DCDP staff also support the Planning Board, Conservation Commission, Gardner Community Land Trust, Gardner Redevelopment Authority and the Grow Gardner Fund.
Property owners in Gardner who want to build a new commercial or industrial building, add on to an existing commercial or industrial building or subdivide land should call DCDP because they will need to submit a Site Plan or Subdivision Plan for review and approval by the Planning Board.
Owners or tenants who want to improve their home or apartment by correcting building and health code violations should also call DCDP, and ask about the City’s Housing Rehabilitation Program.
Small business owners located in Gardner or businesses seeking to relocate to Gardner should call DCDP about the Gardner Redevelopment Authority’s GROW GARDNER FUND. Eligible businesses may apply for loans from $25,000 to $1 million at competitive rates, floating or fixed, and for a term longer than most commercial lenders will allow.
