This program will concentrate on their disaster services and preparedness. The core of the American Red Cross Disaster Services is to assist individuals and families affected by disaster in resuming their normal daily activities independently. Such disasters include fires, hurricanes, floods, earthquakes and other situations that cause human suffering or create needs that those affected cannot alleviate without assistance.
When one of these disasters threatens or strikes, the Red Cross provides shelter, food, health and mental health services to address basic human needs. Through our Emergency Services Canteen, Red Cross volunteers feed disaster victims and emergency workers, handle inquiries from concerned family members outside the disaster area and help those affected by disaster to access other available resources. The American Red Cross service is free and available 24 hours each day.
Regarding the military services, the Red Cross provides emergency communications services for active duty service members stationed in the United States and their immediate family members can call the Armed Forces Emergency Service Center for help seven days a week, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
