Public Hearing on the FY 2011 Budget

Call to Order
Mayor Hawke, Vice Chairman, called the Public Hearing to order at 5:05 p.m.
Presentation of FY 2011 School Budget
Dr. Daring, Superintendent, presented the fiscal year 2011 School Budget through a PowerPoint presentation.
Dr. Daring outlined budget goals, per pupil expenditures, foundation enrollment, average class sizes, and provided a comparison of the FY 2010 and the FY 2011 budgets.
Factors affecting the budget: declining foundation enrollment, indirect costs, contractual obligations, utility prices, special education tuition rates, retirements and sick leave buyback, and the state economic condition.
The FY 2011 Budget includes steps, longevity, educational increases, sick leave buyback, maintenance contracts for elevators, GMS sprinklers, fire alarm systems, security systems, in-house professional development.
Dr. Daring listed salary reductions:
- GHS Special Education Teacher (academic lab)
- (2) GHS Special Education Paraprofessionals
- ESS Band Teacher
- (1) Grade 1 Teacher
- (1) Grade 2 Teacher
- (1) Grade 4 Teacher
- Retirement Savings of $50,352.51
- Move (3) GHS Teachers to School Choice
- Elimination of the GHS After School Detention Stipend
- Reduction of GHS Teacher Substitutes
- Reduction of GMS Teacher Substitutes
Dr. Daring listed the following additional salary reductions:

Mr. Hurd, Assistant Superintendent, spoke on curriculum initiatives.
Dr. Salovardos, Special Education Director, spoke regarding Special Education services.
Ms. Scanlon, Director of Technology, spoke regarding the Technology portion of the FY 2011 Budget.
Ms. Goguen, Business Administrator, spoke about budget in relation to maintaining the school facilities.
