The Gardner Museum presents - Berlin Wall
Thursday, October 24, 2019
The Berlin Wall fell on Nov. 9, 1989 marking the end of the massive border complex that left the city divided into east and west for 28 years. This November, Berlin will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Peaceful Revolution with a major festival. Join us for our own celebration when local eyewitness Mark Knoll (a musicologist who at the time was studying in Berlin on a Fulbright scholarship) shares his experiences and impressions with slides that he took himself or collected from acquaintances during these historic times in Germany. The fall of the Wall paved the way for the reunification of Germany in freedom and democracy. Symbolically, it brought an end not only to Germany's division but also to that of Europe and the wider world, making it a historical event of global significance.
